About Mercado de San Juan
The Mercado San Juan is our ‘gourmand’s paradise’. The market (whose proper name is Mercado San Juan Ernesto Pugibet) embodies the history of Mexico itself. It has been providing exotic and imported goods for centuries. Nowadays, besides wild mushrooms, farm raised ducks from Michoacán, tropical fruits and exquisite seafood, there are several excellent stands at which to eat a light lunch. Try Doña Juana’s comida corrida, one of the best in the city. Or at Gastronómina San Juan, stall 162, gourmet pannini are prepared. Stand 82-84 always offers fresh ceviche and will open a dozen oysters. And El Mercadito Peruano has two stands that prepare classic criolla fare such as seco de res, chupe de camarón and tiraditos with leche de tigre.
