The Mérida Carnival is one of the most important in the region, dating back to the 19th century. Since then, year after year, the people of Mérida have witnessed one of the most spectacular carnivals in Mexico, which is different from other carnivals by having a different theme each year.
Carnival offers something for everyone, from children's games for the little ones to great dances for the youngsters put on by the invited musical groups, as well as delicious food.
Carnival Tuesday, or the "Battle of Flowers", is the day most eagerly awaited by attendees as it is when they enjoy the parade of carnival groups and bid farewell to Carnival. Although the Burning of Bad Mood and the Burial of Juan Carnaval are also eagerly awaited.
